As the leading educational institute in Pakistan, Beaconhouse is the first to offer an exclusive
Pearson Edexcel IGCSE programme in the country. This initiative is a milestone in the digitization of
learning in the country, and will usher in a new era of online education, presenting advanced
learning opportunities for students.
Pearson is the UK’s largest awarding body, setting the standard for international qualifications, built
on the British educational system, and recognised by universities worldwide.
Beaconhouse is offering Pearson Edexcel International General Certificate of Secondary Education
(IGCSE) qualifications at select branches including Discovery Centre, Karachi.
Pearson Edexcel is a globally renowned UK board that offers the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) – the same qualification offered by Cambridge. Therefore, the examinations themselves are not new but are being offered by another board.
What sets Pearson Edexcel apart is its mode of delivery. Pearson is the first examination board to offer online examinations, a natural fit for technology-driven education, allowing students to use digital tools and resources for their assessments. As with Cambridge, the programme is completed over three years.
Pearson Edexcel International GCSEs are modern qualifications with up-to-date content and assessment methodologies that develop and assess critical thinking skills. This structure in content and assessment bridges the gap to A Level, giving students the best possible foundation and helping them perform to their best potential. The course materials are engaging and supportive and are excellent preparation for International A Levels which open the doors to all higher education institutions. The qualification is designed to present opportunities for students to develop key 21st century skills that universities and employers are looking for.
Pearson International GCSEs are assessed externally, while digital mock examinations are marked by Pearson examiners. Students also have access to past papers stretching back several years including an online library at qualifications.pearson.com.
Pearson Edexcel qualifications are accepted by all higher education institutions approved by the IBCC in Pakistan. International GCSEs are considered equivalent to Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and conversion of equivalence is approved by IBCC. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE qualifications are recognised and benchmarked, grade for grade, against the IBCC marking scale. That means you can be confident that they are respected in Pakistan as well as globally, and will deliver the progression that you want to see.
Renowned across the world for academic excellence, Pearson Edexcel qualifications provide a passport to the most prestigious universities in Pakistan and across the world. You can be sure that by choosing Pearson Edexcel International GCSEs, Beaconhouse is preparing students in the best way possible for their future career success and that they will leave school with the qualifications, skills, and knowledge that universities and employers are looking for. Thousands of students around the world take these qualifications every year and progress onto A Level and into the world’s most respected universities.
Pearson Edexcel International GCSEs are awarded using the nine point grading scale (9–1), introduced by the UK government to raise standards and acknowledge top-performing students.
Over 5 million GCSEs and International GCSEs are awarded using the 9–1 grading scale, making it the most used and recognised grading scale for GCSE and International GCSE. Students can progress to future study in Pakistan or globally and their qualifications will be accepted and respected.
Outside Pakistan, many universities worldwide now give higher credit for grade 9 than for the old A*.
Much of what needs to be taught day-to-day is similar to the current Cambridge qualifications, so teachers’ past experience and valuable resource materials will still be very much relevant and helpful. However, Discovery Centre ensures that teachers are well-equipped to apply new pedagogies and assessment methodologies. To help transition from Cambridge to Pearson Edexcel, Pearson has provided complete support, mapping, and training to teachers, along with exclusive access to its proprietary learning and assessment tools. All these tools help build an evidence-based understanding of students’ progress and performance in assessments, which allows educators to tailor learning to the needs of each student, helping them achieve their full potential.
Pearson’s support services for teachers are second to none and educators around the world benefit from continuous improvement of teaching and learning. Specialised tools help teachers develop mock exam papers; they also offer a Mock Service where Pearson examiners will mark mock exams. Planning resources include schemes of work and mapping documents. Other resources include high-quality student books in various formats, including e-books, and a digital teaching hub. A vast bank of past papers and mark schemes is also readily available to teachers.
Additionally, Pearson offers an online results analysis tool, and Access to Scripts, which provides educators with access to their students & marked exam papers as soon as their results are announced. Pearson Edexcel is the only awarding organisation that offers this service for free.
